Because millions of numbnuts regularly shoot video with their cell phones in the portrait (vertical alignment) position, somehow forgetting that most video is watched on computer and television screens which are horizontally aligned in the landscape position. Video recorded in portrait mode can play back 'on its side' on a computer monitor or TV if not rotated. thus making a program which rotates it 90º or 270º very useful.
